Concrete Pavers

Concrete Pavers

Concrete pavers are the most common and well-known type of paver. They are also the most cost effective paver option which is part of the reason they are so popular. Paver Ideas for Landscaping

Pavers Around Pools

Pavers Around Pools

Any type of pavers can be used around pools, but travertine pavers and stone pavers are the most common in pool and landscaping designs. Travertine pool coping comes in different thicknesses and can be bullnose or a square edge. Concrete paver pool coping is normally bullnose. Since pool pavers are so versatile with so many options, they can accommodate any design and installation.

Paver Driveways

Paver Driveways

Paver driveways in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley are commonplace. A concrete paver driveway installation cost is competitive with colored concrete, but offers many more advantages. Future repairs and maintenance are practically non-existent and its timeless style ensures years of enjoyment.

Pavers with Turf

Pavers with Turf

Pavers and turf make a great combination. Whether it is travertine pavers and turf or concrete pavers and turf, the color contrast adds a dramatic effect to the landscape design.

Paver Patios

Paver Installation in Phoenix, Arizona

Site Prep

Site Prep

We first must analyze the job site. Although the installation methods may be the same, every paver install is different since each landscape has unique characteristics. At this time we do any demo or removal of plants, rock or sod. We install sleeves for future irrigation, low voltage lighting, and landscaping.

Paver Elevation

Paver Elevation

Finding the proper elevation is quite possibly the most important part of a paver installation. This step is where we determine the slope of the pavers and the proper height for the landscape. Many paver installers will struggle with this phase, but after 20 years in business we have the experience and knowledge to eliminate any problems.

Base

Base

The base is the foundation of the paver installation. The type of base we use is determined by the type of paver install and the soil type in your area. Different parts of AZ have different soils types that may require deeper foundations.

Sand

Sand

Sand under the pavers has 2 purposes. The first is to create a level surface to sand set the pavers and keep a level surface. The second reason is to create strength by being forced into the joints from the bottom during the compaction phase. It is important to understand how interlocking pavers work in order to have a proper paver installation.

Sand Set Pavers

Sand Set Pavers

This is the fastest and easiest part of the paver installation if the previous phases are done correctly. When the actual pavers are set, the paver driveway, walkway, or patio starts to take shape. Up to this phase, none of the cosmetic portions of the paver job has taken place.

Paver Cutting

Paver Cutting

Cutting pavers can be loud and dirty, but it is a necessary part of pavers. Experienced paver installers can make precision cuts to keep gaps minimal.

Paver Border

Paver Border

Paver borders can be different widths or decorative. Borders are important since they hold everything together. Any professional paver installer will have paver borders in some form. We use different borders depending on the paver design.

Paver Compaction

Paver Compaction

Part of a standard paver installation is compaction. This is not to level pavers, but to force the pavers into the sand bed underneath as well as force the sand from above into the paver joints.

Paver Installation Clean-Up

Paver Installation Clean-Up

No Paver install is complete without proper clean up. This is one of the many areas some paver companies will not do cut costs. We believe any in full service and do not cut corners.

Terms

  • ABC – Aggregate Base Coat
  • Interlocking Pavers – installation pattern that gives more strength to the paver install. Not all patterns are considered interlocking paver installations.
  • Pavers – term giving to specific dimensions coinciding with a formula. Not all “pavers” are pavers by definition
  • Polymeric Sand – type of finishing material that can be used with pavers.
  • Twinkie – Slang term designated for a 3×6 paver.

Benefits of Pavers in Landscaping

  • Cool Surface — Some pavers are relatively cooler than other decking options. Marbella stone pavers and travertine pavers are the most popular options when cooler surfaces are required. There are also several stone pavers with specialty finishes that are cooler pavers to use around pools.
  • Cost Effective — Pavers are a cost-effective option for any landscape. Although not all pavers would be considered inexpensive, many concrete paver installations meet the criteria.
Paver Maintenance—Pavers are very low maintenance. An occasional cleaning is all that is needed to keep your pavers looking beautiful. Washing with a water hose and spray nozzle is will sufficiently clean your pavers.
  • Longevity – Pavers are made to last for years or even a lifetime. They are not going to degrade over time and will bring a dramatic effect to your landscaping whether you have pavers around your pool, patio, walkways, or driveway.
  • Versatility – In the unlikely event a paver cracks or breaks, it can easily be replaced. Unlike concrete, pavers can be replaced without being noticed. If a paver gets stained, replacement of a paver or two is a very non-invasive process. Pavers can also be used for large or small areas, driveways to walkways, and patios and pools.
  • Timeless Style – Pavers have been installed for hundreds of years and are still used today. They are not trendy or in-style. Pavers have stood the test of time and will never go out of fashion. Any landscape style from modern to rustic, traditional to Mediterranean, there is a paver style, shape, and color that will fit the needs.

How much does it cost to install pavers in AZ?

Paver installations can vary in cost drastically depending on the size and type of job, site prep required, as well as type of paver. Large concrete paver driveway installations are usually the least expensive while specialty pavers and porcelain pavers installations can exceed twenty dollars per square foot. Some paver installers still charge by the foot, but the most accurate way to price pavers is by the job since every jobsite has unique landscape variables.

We engaged them to remove and replace our backyard patios and install a beautiful pergola. Tony oversaw our project, and he was exceptional! I had ideas but Tony brought wonderful suggestions regarding both design and materials. Our backyard has truly been transformed.

Not only are they professional, reliable and super responsive at communicating regularly, but their work is truly high caliber and top quality. They don't just do the job, but they do their BEST and the end product truly shows it!

Audrey Gerhardt

Wow! What an amazing job they all did (Chris, office staff & laborers)! They were all so professional and hard-working and made sure every detail we wanted done was taken care of in a timely manner. We also added some additional work in the front yard once they got started. Our back yard is so beautiful and now a true outdoor living space. We still can't believe it's our yard when we look out the windows

img
Josh Woods

Chris emulated the project perfectly by getting Phoenix permits handled, tapping into a pre-existing gas line, extending the gas 70 feet and building a beautiful flagstone fire pit with boulders complete with new electrical outlets. The project turned out exactly as expected and we're pleased with a whole new area of our yard. Additionally, as the projected wrapped up there was a loosely-related electrical issue and he responded quickly to the problem after he had been paid, which is uncommon and highly appreciated.

Hans Hovanitz

I 100% recommend Lone Star for your landscaping needs! They are easy to talk to, professional, and very knowledgeable about how to create a fabulous looking yard. Looking forward to seeing how it will look in a year once the plants have had a chance to grow a bit!
