Pickleball has arrived in a significant way in Paradise Valley. What started as a retirement community sport has evolved into a genuinely competitive game with a passionate following across every age group - and the homeowners in PV who have court space are building. Private courts eliminate the wait at club facilities, provide privacy, and when designed well, add real value to an estate-level property.
We've seen what happens when a court is installed by a contractor who hasn't built one before: cracks within a year from improper subbase work, standing water from inadequate drainage, courts positioned with the sun directly in players' eyes, or a finished surface that looks out of place on a luxury property. We build courts correctly from the first shovel - engineered, designed, and finished to the standard your property deserves.

How We Design & Build Your Court
Site Selection & Orientation
Court orientation is one of the most important decisions in the design process and one that's easy to get wrong. Ideally, a pickleball court runs north-south so that neither player is looking directly into the sun during peak play hours. When site constraints require a different orientation, we discuss the tradeoffs openly and design mitigations - shade structures, wind screening, or lighting - to address them.
Dimensions & Layout
A regulation pickleball court is 20 x 44 feet with recommended minimum clearance of 10 feet on the sides and 7 feet at each end, creating a total footprint of approximately 34 x 64 feet. We also design and build two-court configurations for properties with adequate space, and we can incorporate multi-sport lines (combined pickleball and basketball, for example) on a single surface.
Surface Options
We use a modular tile system that lessens impact on the player. It lasts longer than painted surfaces, and multiple games can be incorporated.
Fencing
Fencing keeps the ball in play and defines the court boundary. Standard options include vinyl-coated chain link in black or dark green, which provides good visibility and durability. For properties where aesthetics are a priority, we can also design decorative fencing with a more architectural character. Heights typically range from 8 to 10 feet.
Lighting
Court lighting extends play into evening hours and is one of the most appreciated features of a private court. We design and install LED court lighting systems on steel poles positioned to minimize shadows and glare on the playing surface. Systems are controllable by timer or smart home integration.
Shade Structures
Optional shade structures - pergolas, shade sails, or architectural shade elements - adjacent to the court create a more comfortable spectator and rest area and can be integrated into the surrounding landscape design.
Sister Company
Pool + Court: The Complete Backyard
A growing number of our Paradise Valley clients are pairing a new pickleball court with a pool remodel or new pool installation through our sister company, Copperleaf Pools. Designing both elements together - one design team, one installation process - ensures the pool and court work together in the space rather than competing for it. Common Questions
How much does a residential pickleball court cost in Paradise Valley?
A well-built single pickleball court with acrylic sport surface, fencing, and basic lighting typically ranges from $60,000 to $100,000+ depending on site conditions, surface selection, fencing style, and whether a shade structure is included. We provide detailed project estimates after a site evaluation.
How long does construction take?
From permits to completion, a typical single-court installation takes 4-6 weeks. Site conditions, permitting timeline, and the scope of surrounding landscape work can affect this.
Can a pickleball court also be used for tennis?
A standard pickleball court is too small for full-size tennis. However, it can be used for platform tennis or modified tennis, and it can accommodate two pickleball courts side by side in roughly the same footprint as one tennis court. We also build multi-sport configurations if your primary intent is pickleball with occasional other sport use.
What maintenance does a pickleball court require?
Acrylic sport surfaces should be cleaned periodically and recoated every 5-8 years depending on UV exposure and usage. Post-tension concrete surfaces require minimal maintenance beyond cleaning. Net systems and fencing should be inspected annually.
Do you install nets and net posts as part of the project?
Yes - we install regulation net posts (permanently anchored) and net systems as part of every court project. We use commercial-grade post systems rather than portable setups.
Will a pickleball court add to my property value?
In the current Paradise Valley market, yes - particularly among buyers in the 45-65 demographic. A well-built court that's integrated into the landscape is viewed as a premium amenity, not an eyesore. A poorly built court can do the opposite.
