Custom Basketball Court Installation in Paradise Valley, AZ
A residential basketball court done right is one of the most-used outdoor amenities on a luxury estate - especially for households with kids, athletes, or homeowners who simply want a court of their own. Done wrong, it's an oversized concrete pad that looks like it belongs at a municipal recreation center.

A Court Worth Having on a Property Worth Having It On
A residential basketball court done right is one of the most-used outdoor amenities on a luxury estate - especially for households with kids, athletes, or homeowners who simply want a court of their own. Done wrong, it's an oversized concrete pad that looks like it belongs at a municipal recreation center.
The difference is almost entirely in the design and integration. A well-designed court has the right surface, the right goal system, the right lighting, and it's surrounded by hardscape and landscape that make it feel like a deliberate part of the property - not an industrial interruption. That's what we build.
Design Options
Full Court, Half Court & Multi-Sport Configurations
Full Court
A regulation NBA full court is 94 x 50 feet - a footprint that requires significant space and is typically seen on large estate properties. We build full courts to regulation or custom dimensions, with everything from casual half-line setups to fully painted regulation layouts.
Half Court
For most residential applications, a half court - typically 45-50 x 30-35 feet - provides a fully functional game experience in a much more manageable footprint. Half courts accommodate 3-on-3 play, solo shooting, and family use without requiring the full estate acreage of a regulation court.
Multi-Sport Configuration
Many clients choose to maximize their investment by designing a court that accommodates multiple sports - most commonly basketball combined with pickleball lines on the same surface. We design these hybrid layouts with proper court geometry for both sports and a surface that performs well for each.
Surface Options
Sport court modular tile - cushioned, shock-absorbing surface available in a wide range of colors and configurations. Easy to incorporate multiple sport lines and color coding. Can be removed or modified.
Goal Systems
We install professional in-ground and adjustable goal systems - not portable setups. Options include fixed-height regulation goals, adjustable-height systems for mixed age use, and glass or acrylic backboard systems for a premium appearance. Goal selection is part of the design conversation, not an afterthought.
Lighting
LED court lighting on properly positioned steel poles allows for evening play and is one of the features our basketball court clients most consistently appreciate after installation. We design lighting systems that eliminate dark spots and glare on the playing surface.
Landscape Integration
Making the Court Feel Like It Belongs
The landscape and hardscape surrounding a basketball court is where most contractors fall short. A court surrounded by nothing but a chain link fence and bare dirt looks industrial regardless of surface quality. We design:
Perimeter hardscape - concrete or paver transition zones around the court that provide a clean, finished edge
Fencing and screening - functional boundary fencing integrated with planted screening where desired for privacy
Shade structures - overhead shade for seating areas adjacent to the court
Planted buffers - desert-appropriate plants that soften the court perimeter and integrate it into the surrounding landscape
Frequently Asked Questions
Common Questions
What's the minimum lot size needed for a residential basketball court?
A half court in the 45 x 35 foot range requires a minimum clear area of roughly 55 x 45 feet when accounting for surrounding clearance. Most Paradise Valley estate properties have adequate space; we assess the specific site during the consultation.
How long does installation take?
A typical half court installation takes 3-5 weeks from permits to completion, not including the design phase. Full courts and multi-sport configurations with additional landscaping take longer.
Is sport tile or concrete better for a residential basketball court?
Both are excellent options with different tradeoffs. Sport tile is more forgiving on joints and knees and is easier to customize visually. Concrete is lower maintenance and has a cleaner appearance. We'll discuss both in detail and help you choose based on your specific priorities.
Can the court double as a pickleball court?
Yes - we design multi-sport courts regularly. A properly sized half basketball court can accommodate two pickleball courts with minimal additional footprint. We'll lay out both court geometries in the design phase to confirm the configuration works before anything is built.
Do you handle permits for basketball court construction?
Yes. Courts are permanent structures requiring permits in Paradise Valley. We manage permitting as part of every project.
