Phoenix Standard

Phoenix Landscape Design Rooted in Each Neighborhood's Character

Phoenix is not a single landscape market - it is three distinct ones. Arcadia's established citrus estates, where the landscape has been tended for generations and the design challenge is to enhance what's already there without losing what makes it irreplaceable. The Biltmore corridor, where landscape design is part of an integrated interior-exterior design program and the outdoor space is expected to reflect the same level of intentionality as the home's interior. And North Phoenix's newer estate communities, where a full outdoor environment is being created on a desert lot for the first time and the scope is comprehensive.

Lone Star Landscaping designs and installs landscapes across all three of these Phoenix markets, and our approach adapts to each one. In Arcadia we work with the existing landscape rather than against it. In the Biltmore we design with architectural precision and material sophistication. In North Phoenix we create complete outdoor environments that make the most of the lot, the views, the climate, and the homeowner's vision.

Arcadia

Arcadia Landscape Design

Arcadia is one of the most beloved residential landscapes in Arizona, and the reason is simple: decades of patient cultivation have produced mature tree canopies, established citrus groves, and a green, irrigated character that feels genuinely lush in a desert climate. The worst thing a landscape contractor can do in Arcadia is tear that out and start over. The best thing is to understand what's there, preserve what matters, remove what's failing, and introduce new design elements that honor the neighborhood's character while updating the outdoor living infrastructure.

Our Arcadia landscape work typically involves a thorough assessment of the existing plant material - what's healthy, what's declining, what's appropriately placed, and what's blocking views or occupying space needed for new outdoor amenities. From that assessment we develop a design that works with the best of what's already there. We also handle the irrigation infrastructure that is central to Arcadia's greenness - replacing aging valve manifolds, adding smart controllers, and zoning new plantings appropriately to the water requirements of the plant material.

Biltmore

Biltmore Landscape Design

The Biltmore homeowner brings a design sensibility to landscape that is calibrated to the resort aesthetic immediately adjacent to the neighborhood. The outdoor environment is expected to function at the level of the resort facilities nearby - manicured, precise, and elegant. Formal planting compositions, specimen plants selected for their architectural quality, and hardscape materials chosen to complement the home's exterior finish materials are all central to Biltmore landscape design.

We approach Biltmore projects as design collaborations, frequently working with interior designers and architects to ensure the outdoor environment reads as a seamless extension of the home. Material selections are made with the same rigor applied to interior finishes, and installation precision is non-negotiable.

North

North Phoenix Landscape Design

North Phoenix landscape design on newer estate lots is often a comprehensive scope - complete site design from a largely bare desert lot. The starting point is the terrain: the existing topography, the native plant material on the site, the views from the home's principal rooms, and the sun exposure across the outdoor areas. From that site assessment a complete outdoor living design emerges: the hardscape layout, the pool placement (in coordination with Copperleaf), the outdoor kitchen location, the sport court footprint, the planting palette, the irrigation design, and the lighting plan.

Desert-adapted planting is central to North Phoenix landscape design - not because it's the only option, but because desert plants perform best in this environment and require the least long-term intervention once established. We work with a full palette of Sonoran Desert species - saguaro, ocotillo, palo verde, desert willow, yellow bells, globe mallow, brittlebush - supplemented by flowering perennials, ornamental grasses, and specimen succulents that add color and variety to the planting composition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

Do you remove and replace existing Arcadia landscapes?

We can, but we encourage clients to think carefully about what is worth preserving before committing to full removal. A full landscape removal in Arcadia loses decades of plant establishment that cannot be replaced quickly or inexpensively. We prefer to assess the existing landscape, identify what has real value, and design around it. That said, when an existing landscape is failing or genuinely inappropriate for the homeowner's vision, full removal and redesign is the right approach.

How do you handle irrigation in Phoenix given water restrictions?

Water efficiency is embedded in every irrigation system we design. We use smart controllers that adjust to weather conditions, drip and micro-spray systems that target plant root zones, and plant palettes that, once established, require minimal supplemental water. For Arcadia properties with older overhead sprinkler systems, conversion to drip is one of the most impactful improvements we can make.

Can you design a landscape that looks established immediately?

Yes - the primary tool for immediate visual impact is the use of specimen-size plant material. 36-inch and 48-inch box trees, mature multi-trunk desert shrubs, and established saguaros and ocotillos all provide immediate presence. The tradeoff is cost - specimen material is significantly more expensive than smaller nursery stock. We discuss the trade-off with every client and help you make the investment where it makes the most visual difference.
