The most sought-after outdoor amenity in Paradise Valley right now isn't a new pool - it's a court. Pickleball courts in particular have transformed the way high-end homeowners think about their outdoor space, and for good reason: they're genuinely fun, they bring people together, and a well-designed court adds real value to an estate property.
But a court is a permanent installation on a luxury property. Done wrong - wrong surface, wrong drainage, wrong orientation, wrong integration with the surrounding landscape - it can look like an afterthought and perform like one. Done right, it becomes a centerpiece.
Lone Star Landscaping designs and builds outdoor courts that are engineered properly and finished to the standard your property demands. We handle everything from site selection and grading through surfacing, fencing, lighting, and surrounding landscape - so the court looks like it belongs rather than like it was dropped in.

Court Types
Court Types We Design & Build
Pickleball Courts
The fastest-growing sport in America has found its most enthusiastic audience in communities like Paradise Valley, where active homeowners want a dedicated court on their own property. We design and build single and multi-court configurations, with options for permanent lines, sport surfaces, and integrated lighting for evening play.
Basketball Courts
A full or half-court basketball installation done right is a statement piece. We design regulation and custom court configurations with pro-grade sport tile or post-tension concrete surfaces, integrated goal systems, proper lighting, and surrounding hardscape that makes the court feel like a designed element - not just a concrete pad.
Sand Volleyball Courts
A sand volleyball court adds a resort-quality, social element to an outdoor space that no other amenity quite replicates. We design and install properly sized courts with appropriate sand depth, drainage, surrounding hardscape, and optional lighting - suitable for casual family play or competitive use.
Multi-Sport & Combination Courts
Many clients choose to maximize their footprint with a multi-sport configuration - combining pickleball lines with a basketball key, or designing a court that accommodates multiple sports on a single surface. We design these hybrid layouts with proper court geometry and surface specifications for all intended uses.
Design & Construction
Built Right From the Ground Up
A court that looks great on day one but cracks, drains poorly, or fades within a few seasons isn't a luxury install - it's an expensive problem. The following elements are non-negotiable in every court we build:
Site analysis - orientation for sun exposure (east-west preferred for pickleball and tennis), drainage review, existing grade assessment
Proper subbase - compacted aggregate base to spec, critical for long-term performance in Arizona's expansive soil conditions
Surface options - post-tension concrete, sport court tiles, acrylic sport surfaces - each with different performance and aesthetic characteristics
Court geometry - regulation dimensions or custom layout, precisely executed
Fencing and surround - chain link, black vinyl-coated, or architectural options that suit the property aesthetic
Lighting - low-voltage or LED court lighting designed for evening play and energy efficiency
Landscape integration - plantings, hardscape transitions, shade structures - the elements that make the court feel designed
Sister Company
Courts & Pools - Designed Together
Many of our Paradise Valley court projects are part of larger outdoor transformations that also include pool and spa work. Through our sister company Copperleaf Pools, we can design and build a pool, spa, and court as a single cohesive outdoor environment - one design team, one install process, one point of accountability. The result is a space where every element was designed to coexist, not compete.

Common Questions
What's the standard size for a pickleball court?
A regulation pickleball court is 20 feet wide by 44 feet long, with recommended out-of-bounds space of 10 feet on each side and 7 feet on each end - making the total footprint approximately 34 x 64 feet minimum. We work with your site to maximize the court footprint while integrating it with the surrounding landscape.
Can you build multiple courts side by side?
Yes. Many of our clients opt for two-court configurations for simultaneous play. We design multi-court layouts with proper spacing between courts and a shared or individual fencing system.
What surface do you recommend for pickleball in Arizona?
For Arizona's climate, we typically recommend an acrylic sport surface over post-tension concrete - it provides consistent bounce, good traction, and holds up well in extreme heat. Color selection matters here too; lighter surfaces stay cooler underfoot during summer play.
How long does a court installation take?
A typical single-court installation takes 3-4 weeks from grading through final surfacing, not including the design and permitting phase. More complex projects or multi-court configurations take longer.
Do courts in Paradise Valley require permits?
Generally yes. Courts are permanent structures and typically require grading and construction permits. HOA or architectural review may also apply in gated communities. We manage the permitting process as part of every project.
