Custom Landscape Lighting & Low-Voltage Systems in Paradise Valley, AZ

A well-designed landscape lighting system doesn't illuminate a yard - it reveals a property. The same travertine patio, the same saguaro garden, the same pool terrace that looks beautiful by day takes on an entirely different character after dark when the lighting is thoughtfully designed. In Paradise Valley, where estates are meant to impress and outdoor living extends well into the evening, landscape lighting isn't optional - it's part of the design.

Paradise Valley Standard

The Property at Night Is Half the Property

A well-designed landscape lighting system doesn't illuminate a yard - it reveals a property. The same travertine patio, the same saguaro garden, the same pool terrace that looks beautiful by day takes on an entirely different character after dark when the lighting is thoughtfully designed. In Paradise Valley, where estates are meant to impress and outdoor living extends well into the evening, landscape lighting isn't optional - it's part of the design.

At Lone Star Landscaping, we design and install low-voltage landscape lighting systems as an integrated element of every outdoor environment we create. The fixtures are invisible by day. The effect by night is transformative.

Lighting Types

Lighting Applications We Design & Install

Architectural Uplighting

The most impactful lighting in any luxury landscape is architectural uplighting - fixtures positioned to wash walls, illuminate columns, or throw dramatic shadows from palms and saguaros. The goal is to create depth and drama that mirrors what a skilled interior lighting designer would do inside the home.

Pathway & Step Lighting

Pathway and step lighting serves a practical function - safe navigation after dark - but in a well-designed system, it also creates visual rhythm through the landscape. We use fixtures that cast light downward, not outward, maintaining the ambient darkness that makes uplighting effective.

Outdoor Living & Entertainment Lighting

The outdoor kitchen, dining area, and covered living space need to be genuinely usable after dark - which means task lighting for cooking, ambient lighting for dining, and the kind of overhead warmth that makes an outdoor space feel like a room. We design layered lighting systems for outdoor living areas that serve every function without looking clinical.

Pool & Water Feature Lighting

Pool and spa lighting is increasingly sophisticated - color-changing LED systems, fiber optic water features, and coordinated control between pool and landscape lighting are all available and worth designing intentionally. We coordinate pool lighting design with Copperleaf Pools when a pool is part of the project to ensure the systems are integrated rather than independent.

Security & Perimeter Lighting

A well-designed security lighting system looks nothing like a commercial flood installation. We design perimeter and entry lighting that provides genuine deterrence and safety while maintaining the aesthetic of the overall lighting plan.

Systems & Technology

Smart Systems & Control

Every lighting system we install uses quality low-voltage LED fixtures with multi-zone transformers that allow different areas to be controlled independently. We integrate with smart home systems - including Lutron, Control4, and others - on request, allowing full lighting control from a single app or control panel.

01

LED technology - long lamp life, low energy draw, consistent color temperature over time

02

Zone control - different areas of the landscape can be set to different schedules and intensities

03

Smart home integration - available on request for projects with existing or planned smart home systems

04

Photocell and timer control - automatic dawn-to-dusk operation without manual management

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

Is landscape lighting included in your standard landscape installs?

We strongly recommend integrating lighting into every project we design, and we include lighting in our standard design process. It's significantly more cost-effective to run conduit during installation than to retrofit a lighting system afterward.

What's the difference between line-voltage and low-voltage landscape lighting?

Low-voltage systems (12V) are the standard for residential landscape lighting. They're safer to work around, more energy-efficient, and easier to modify and expand than line-voltage (120V) systems. Everything we install is low-voltage LED.

How do you ensure the lighting doesn't look over-lit or commercial?

Restraint is the mark of a good lighting design. We design from an 'as dark as possible, as light as needed' principle - meaning we use the minimum number of fixtures necessary to achieve the desired effect, and we pay close attention to fixture beam angles, color temperature, and wattage. Over-lit landscapes look cheap regardless of the fixture quality.

Can landscape lighting be added to an existing Lone Star installation?

Yes - though it's easier and less expensive when planned from the start. We can retrofit lighting into most existing installations, though conduit runs may require trenching that wouldn't have been necessary in new construction.

What lighting brands do you use?

We work with professional-grade fixture manufacturers including Kichler, FX Luminaire, Unique Lighting, and Vista Professional Outdoor Lighting, depending on the application and fixture type. We don't use big-box retail fixtures.
